Chapter 5: A Hero Saves a Beauty

Liu Ruyan’s reaction was normal.

After all, Song Yuwei had awakened her system, which explained her behavior.

But why hadn’t Qiu Mengxia broken off the engagement either?

That’s what made Song Yuwei even more curious, prompting her to follow Qiu Mengxia in secret.

Could it be… Qiu Mengxia also awakened a system like hers?
Was that why she refused to call off the engagement?

Meanwhile, Qiu Mengxia had arrived at a small alleyway, where an elderly man in a Taoist robe stood at the far end.

“Master… why are you here?” she asked.

The old Taoist sighed and said,

“Mengxia, you shouldn’t have gone to the Luo family.”

“The threads of fate have become tangled again.”

“From this point forward, the Heavenly Dao can no longer be calculated.”

“Perhaps your actions will change the entire future of this world.”

Qiu Mengxia was silent for a moment, then said softly, “Master…”

The old Taoist glanced behind Qiu Mengxia and said in a low voice,

“The future will be created by all of you.”

“The safety of this world will eventually rest on your choices.”

“Every decision you make will shape what’s to come.”

“Whether good or bad, only you will know deep down. I just hope none of you will regret your choices.”

“I need to go into seclusion now to study the secrets of fate. I won’t see you again for a while.”

“If fate allows, we will meet again.”

And just like that, the old Taoist vanished—as if he had never existed at all.

Qiu Mengxia was already used to her master’s mysterious nature, so she wasn’t surprised in the slightest.

But Song Yuwei, who had been secretly spying nearby, almost let out a gasp. She quickly covered her mouth and fled the scene, terrified that Qiu Mengxia would catch her.

Sitting in her car, Song Yuwei was absolutely stunned.

So… Qiu Mengxia came to the Luo family because that old Taoist revealed a secret of fate?

I awakened a system, and she has a carry-along “Grandpa”?

What the hell is going on here…?

At that moment, Qiu Mengxia also left the alley.

As she walked, memories resurfaced in her mind.

It had started during military training camp—that old Taoist suddenly appeared one day and said he wanted to take her as a disciple.

After witnessing his powers, Qiu Mengxia knew she had encountered a true master, so she eagerly followed him to learn martial arts.

But in truth, the old Taoist didn’t teach her much—just a few tips on cultivating inner energy.

Yet even that small amount of knowledge drastically improved Qiu Mengxia’s combat skills in no time.

That only made her trust her master even more.

Then, one stormy night, her master suddenly told her:

“Destiny has changed—the source of the disturbance… is the Luo family.”

The great upheaval of the Luo family was tied to the future survival of the world.

That’s why Qiu Mengxia couldn’t help herself—she went to the Luo family estate, just in time to witness Liu Ruyan trying to break off the engagement.

In truth, Qiu Mengxia, like Song Yuwei, had once heard that Luo-ge, who used to be powerful and protect them, had now become a complete waste—even dragging the entire Luo family into ruin.

She originally planned to back out of the engagement as well.

But her master had told her the Luo family was the variable, so she didn’t dare act rashly.

But could it be that just one meeting was enough to change the course of fate?

Qiu Mengxia’s mind was in a fog now—she couldn’t make sense of anything anymore.

Back at the Luo household, Du Wei was still discussing the girls’ engagement cancellations with Luo Pengtian.

Just then, Luo Xinghe’s phone rang.

It was the boss of the delivery station, cursing him out.

“Where the hell are you? Didn’t you see there’s a huge order waiting for you to deliver?!”

“You accepted it and didn’t send it—what are you trying to pull?”

“That order is worth tens of thousands just for one meal! You think a lowly delivery boy like you can afford to cover that?”

“Get it delivered NOW, or I’m docking your entire paycheck for the month!”

Luo Xinghe was completely confused. He never even accepted an order.

Even if the system assigned one automatically, he should’ve at least gotten a notification, and he certainly didn’t click to grab anything.

He checked his phone—and sure enough, there was an active order. And it was a big one.

It was for Fengcheng Grand Hotel, the most upscale hotel in the city. Just three dishes, but the price was over 20,000 yuan.

Luo Xinghe frowned.

The Fengcheng Grand Hotel was elite—three dishes costing tens of thousands was normal, but they usually had their own people deliver those kinds of orders.

So why did it land in his hands today?

Weird…

But when you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to keep your head down. So Luo Xinghe packed up and left, deciding to deal with the delivery first and not think about those drama-queen fiancées for now.

But the further he went, the stranger it got—the location took him to a skewer stand near Fengcheng Film and Television University.

Luo Xinghe stopped at the roadside, confused, scanning the area.

Where’s the customer?

The location was marked right here, but there was no one around.

That said, the students at the film academy were mostly rich second-gens, so it made sense if someone from there ordered expensive food like this.

While pondering, Luo Xinghe stood near the skewer stall and glanced around—just in time to spot a pure-looking young girl working busily behind the stall.

The scene… felt oddly familiar.

Where had he seen this before?

Then, less than a minute later, a few drunk punks who were eating and drinking nearby started harassing the girl.

“Hey pretty girl, don’t walk away!”

“Come have a drink with us.”

“Yeah, don’t be scared.”

“We’re all nice guys here.”

“Yeah, my brother just looks fierce, but he’s actually super gentle.”

“Heh, college girls really do have the softest skin.”

The young girl looked both frightened and wronged.

“What are you doing? Don’t touch me!”

“If you keep this up, I’m calling the police!”

“No! Help, somebody help!”

The drunk punks began groping the girl, who screamed with tears in her eyes.

Combined with her innocent, pure face, her helplessness was like a lotus battered by the rain—truly heartbreaking.

At that moment, a middle-aged woman with graying hair rushed out from the back of the skewer stand, trying to help.

But the punks, already wasted, didn’t hold back—one of them slapped the woman hard across the head.

By a stroke of misfortune, the woman collapsed next to a table, knocked out cold.

“Mom… Mom, are you okay?” the girl screamed.

But the punks just kept laughing and harassing the girl, completely ignoring the woman on the ground.

It was clear—these thugs had no fear of consequences.

Watching the scene unfold, Luo Xinghe was stunned.

This… wasn’t this the very first scene from the book?

The moment where War God of the Borderlands, Zhou Shuai, had just gotten off a plane—and made his grand entrance.

Just like in every other cliché “Crooked-Mouth Dragon King” type of novel.

The main character would always heroically save a beauty while eating, bump into a CEO goddess in the bathroom, or win the love of cute fangirls just by walking down the street. Everything revolved around his protagonist halo.

In this scene, Zhou Shuai had just landed and wanted to grab a bite before settling in, but saw one of the heroines, Shen Ying, being harassed by some punks—and leapt in to save her.

Of course, the drunk punks were no match for a seasoned war god like Zhou Shuai.

After the rescue, Shen Ying became devoted to him—cooking, cleaning, and warming his bed from that day on.

Back then, Luo Xinghe, as the young master of the Luo family, had also come to the film academy for business talks. Surrounded by bodyguards, he had completely ignored the situation, walking right past Shen Ying without a second glance.

That moment had been seen by Zhou Shuai.

And that—was the first face-off between the protagonist and the story’s first minor villain.

The original novel’s author had spent pages and pages contrasting the two:

One was brave, kind-hearted, and righteous.

The other—cold, heartless, and indifferent—looked down on ordinary people like ants, a young master raised in luxury with zero empathy.

That was how the author had painted the image of Luo Xinghe: a cruel and emotionless aristocrat.
