Chapter 1: Why do they appear on dating shows?

Dragon Country, July.

This summer was far livelier than usual.

The newest season of the dating show “Love Code” was about to go live.

Unlike previous years, where the focus was on everyday people, this season brought in A-list celebrities like Liu TianxianYang Mi, and others—famous actresses at the peak of their careers.

The moment the news dropped; it blew up the entire internet.

Countless people couldn’t believe their eyes.

Especially their fans—completely stunned.
No one could figure out what the heck these goddesses were thinking.

Public anticipation surged to the max, surpassing every similar show in popularity and online chatter.

“Love Code” officially premiered.

The livestream viewership numbers skyrocketed in real time.

“Are Tianxian and the others really showing up?”
“Duh, they already announced it officially.”
“I don’t get it. Didn’t they all say they’re not into dating? Why the sudden public matchmaking?”
“Midlife crisis?”
“GTFO!!”

While netizens buzzed with theories, the screen cut to a coastal city square.

Vroom Vroom Vroom!

A string of cool, flashy sports cars rolled up one after another.

“Look! The guests are arriving!”
“Whoa! That’s a Porsche 911!”
“This one’s sweet too—a Land Rover Defender!”
“Wait… that’s a Mercedes AMG… Holy crap, isn’t that the car of Grand Mage Hua Chenxue? He’s joining too? As a male contestant?”
“Damn, this season’s male guests are loaded.”
“No doubt. My friend is a Qinghua grad and a senior executive at a state-owned company—he applied and got rejected. The reason? Not good-looking enough…”
“Of course! You can’t just pair any average Joe with Queen Mi or Tianxian! Only the triple-highs are allowed—high looks, high background, high education!”
“High education? What about the Grand Mage?”
“He’s got… ‘testicular cancer’ okay?”
“HAHAHAHA!”

Laughter exploded in the comment section.

Just then, three more cars pulled up—mostly MPV nanny vans.

As the doors opened, four stunning female figures stepped out in sequence—

“Wow, it’s Little Princess Yu Shuxi from Shanghai!”
“Look! That’s Yang Mi and Reba! They actually came!”
“Damn, side by side comparison… Look at Yang Mi’s flawless skin—so plump and smooth. And Reba’s face? Sharp and stunning. Damn, absolute goddesses!”
“ Are we even watching the same stream?”
“HAHAHA!”
“OMG! Tianxian just got out! That calm, graceful smile… Damn, even more divine than her photos. She’s too beautiful.”
“Huh? She stopped walking… looks like she’s checking someone out?”
“Is she sizing up the male contestants? Trying to pick her type?”
“No way. Could she actually be here for love? I thought they were just acting…”

The viewers weren’t wrong—Liu Tianxian was indeed observing the male contestants.

But she wasn’t checking out who might catch her eye.

She was curious:

“Which one is it?”

Liu Tianxian had a rather complicated reason for joining the show.

One day, her agent (aka her Mom) received a strange phone call.

The caller said there was a dating show coming up and asked if her daughter was interested in joining.
“After all, she’s single anyway—might as well come have some fun.”

Both Liu’s Mom and Tianxian were dumbfounded.

“Since when does HQ care about celebrities’ love lives?”

Liu Tianxian found it all laughable and instinctively wanted to say no.

Her mom gave her a sharp look and stopped her.

After hanging up, she whispered:

“HQ isn’t that bored. If they’re calling, there’s definitely something more going on. Don’t reject it outright—let’s find out what’s really behind this.”

Sure enough, not long after, her long-estranged father gave her a call.

He asked if someone had invited her to a dating show.

Then he told them it wasn’t a bad thing—and actually recommended she take part.

Liu’s Mom and Tianxian were full of questions and pressed him for details.

He hesitated and said things were… complicated, and he didn’t know everything himself.

What he did know was that, for some unknown reason, a major business tycoon had sent his son onto the show for matchmaking.

This piece of gossip came from none other than their superior—the Ambassador to America—who casually mentioned it in passing.

And that rich man’s son?

Had just been deported back to the country via the embassy.

After hearing that…

Liu’s Mom instantly lost it.

“You want to set our daughter up with a criminal?!”

“It’s not what you think. The kid didn’t actually do anything that serious.”

“What’s his name?”

“I don’t know. The details are classified.”

“…”

Liu Tianxian’s mom hung up in silence.

Then she immediately started pressuring Liu Tianxian to join the show.

Her reasoning was simple:
Even if she wasn’t going to actually find love, she had to consider her career.

So, with great reluctance, Liu Tianxian ended up coming along…

She glanced over at Yang Mi and the other girls casually chatting and thought to herself:

“They’re probably in the same boat, right?
No—most likely they don’t know the real reason. They were probably just told to ‘complete a mission.’”

After the four female guests finished their small talk, they split up into three separate spots.

The male guests started stepping forward, putting on their best smiles and trying to chat with them.

Liu Tianxian was already the quiet type. She responded with a polite smile but privately kept analysing her situation:

“Let’s eliminate Hua Chenxue first.
Even though his family is rich, there’s no way they’re powerful enough to get the ambassador to step in.
If they were, he wouldn’t be getting clowned as ‘The Mage’ all the time.”

As for the other two male guests, she wasn’t sure of their background.

They looked impressive…

“Could be one of them…”

“Nope. Better keep my distance, just in case. Don’t want to get caught up in anything.”

“Wait—aren’t there supposed to be five male guests? Where are the other two?”

Just as she thought that, a faint creaking sound floated over with the wind.

Liu Tianxian turned toward the noise.

A boy in his early twenties appeared, slowly cruising in on a shared rental bike, a lollipop in his mouth, swaying casually as he pedalled.

As he approached the plaza, a staff member quickly stepped up to stop him:

“Excuse me, sir—this area’s part of a live filming. Could you please take a detour?”

The boy paused, resting one leg down to balance the bike, pulled the lollipop out of his mouth, and asked:
“This is Love Code?”

“Yes.”

“Oh. I thought I might be in the wrong place…”

“You are…?”

“Liu Lang. I’m here to join the show.”

“You’re one of the male guests?!”

The staff was stunned.

After a beat, they couldn’t help scanning him up and down.

Sure, the guy was seriously good-looking.

But…

He was dressed in super casual, ordinary summer clothes.
Riding a shared yellow bike.
Sucking on a lollipop.
With an expression that screamed “just some dude on the street.”

This guy… was here for the dating show?

The rest of the guests were just as stunned.

For a second, the livestream chat froze—then exploded:

“Wait… HE’S a male guest?! Is this a joke?!”

“Everyone else came to date, this guy came to mess around.”

“But real talk…lowkey this dude is actually the hottest one. No cap—he blows the other three out of the water.”

“Hotness won’t help here! The female guests are all A-list actresses! They’re showing up in luxury cars, and this guy rolls in on a rental bike. What’s he gonna do—race them uphill?”

The chat flooded with comments.

Back at the scene, everyone was exchanging looks, the vibe suddenly weird and awkward.

Pfft!

Liu Tianxian, Reba, and the others couldn’t help but laugh.

At that moment, Liu Lang seemed to be drawn by the sound of their laughter and casually glanced over.

As he looked, his expression suddenly froze—

Like he’d just seen something unbelievable
