Back at his seat, Hua Chenxue didn’t sit down right away.
Instead, he turned to look at Liu Lang beside him—
That gaze carried the weight of superiority.
He opened his mouth to speak—
“You ascended to the heavens,” Liu Lang said seriously. “Hah…” Hua Chenxue’s smirk shot straight up to his forehead.
“Just a pity you didn’t catch up with the heavens while kneeling,” Liu Lang sighed.
Pfft! Someone nearby couldn’t help but snicker. Hua Chenxue’s face turned an ugly shade of purple.
“Nonsense!” he snapped.
“You did ask me for feedback. Now you’re mad when I give it? Man, I can’t win,” Liu Lang spread his hands.
“You!!” Hua Chenxue looked ready to explode.
This scene instantly sent the livestream chat into a frenzy:
- “Preach! He’s saying exactly what I wanted to say!”
- “Get lost, you uncultured swine!”
- “Come on, he did ask for a critique. What, is he only allowed to be praised?”
- “You don’t know anything. Shut up.”
- “Wrong, he’s in a band too!”
- “Rock? LOL! That underground trash? You gotta have brain damage to listen to that. Especially here—if he sings that, we’ll die laughing.”
- “…”
It was almost Liu Lang’s turn to perform.
Hua Chenxue’s vote count was still climbing amidst the chaos.
At this point, the producers would usually let things settle before the next performance, to avoid affecting the previous guest’s votes.
With time to spare, everyone started speculating what Liu Lang would do.
“You’re up next,” Hua Chenxue said coldly, giving Liu Lang a look full of meaning.
“We both play music, so obviously we should compete with original songs. That’s fair, right?”
“Sounds reasonable…” Liu Lang nodded.
“Wait a second! We need to talk,” Liu Tianxian suddenly cut in.
Liu Lang was her only hope of winning the chance to pick her favorite for the date house.
The hope was slim—but if he sang rock, that slim chance would hit zero.
After all, this was a dating show, not an underground rock gig.
Wrong setting, wrong audience.
Pulling that stunt here would be like doing a monkey dance.
She sat close beside Liu Lang and whispered, “Be real—do you have any other hobbies?”
“???”
“Storytelling? That would work too.”
“Wouldn’t that mean I lost?” Liu Lang asked with a grin.
“Better to lose than embarrass yourself!” Liu Tianxian shot him a look.
“…” Liu Lang blinked, clearly not expecting her to just give up like that. After a brief pause, he chuckled:
“It’s fine. I’ll sing.” “No! Why won’t you listen for once? Let me be clear—your music cannot be performed here!” she snapped.
“Who said rock singers can only sing rock?” Liu Lang leaned in and whispered with a bright smile.
It stunned Liu Tianxian for a moment.
——
Liu Lang was lazy, not dumb. Of course he’d thought this through.
Besides, that rock music belonged to the previous guy—he never really planned to sing it anyway.
Still, Liu Tianxian’s concern moved something in him.
Without another word, he pulled out a recently obtained trial card.
Clicked “Use.”
[Ding!] Please describe keywords for the memory you wish to retrieve. The more detailed, the better we can locate it.
Ugh, still that AI flavor. Just as Liu Lang was thinking about what to type,
Hua Chenxue, seeing him so close to Liu Tianxian, spoke with a jealous sneer:
“Big sis Tianxian really cares about you, huh? How about you sing her a song you wrote, just for her?”
The livestream chat exploded:
- “Dude, you tryna kill him?”
- “All his songs are rebellious, heavy rock bangers—you want him to dedicate one of those to Liu Tianxian?”
- “That’s public humiliation!”
- “Ruthless AF!”
Meanwhile, across the screen, a woman glared:
“Whose kid is that? So annoying!”
“Calm down,” a man beside her said.
“But—”
“He’s a man. He has to go through hardships to grow. If something like this trips him up, how’s he gonna carry the family in the future?”
The woman went quiet, staring at the screen. Then she suddenly said:
“Actually, this girl’s pretty nice. She and our son kinda match, don’t they? Is her mom that agent surnamed Liu?”
“What are you planning?” the man asked, stunned.
“None of your business. I said I wouldn’t interfere with his affairs. Didn’t say I wouldn’t meddle with others.” She gave him a look.
“( ̄ー ̄*|||…”
——
Just as Liu Tianxian was about to argue with Hua Chenxue again, Liu Lang grinned:
“Great idea!”
“!!??” Liu Tianxian looked at him in shock.
“I need a computer. Preferably with MIDI and music production software,” he turned to the PD.
“We have one! Ready to go. But… what are you planning?” The PD looked puzzled.
“Give me 15 minutes.”
“You can’t be serious—are you saying you’re going to compose a song live!?” Liu Tianxian blurted.
“Huh?” The PD was dazed.
“Just get me the computer.” Liu Lang smiled.
While everyone was still stunned, the recording engineer brought over the requested gear.
Liu Lang took it, stared at the screen for a couple of seconds—
Then moved to a quiet corner and started clicking and typing furiously.
The chat freaked out again:
- “No way, he’s serious??”
- “Impossible. Even with pre-prepped material, 15 minutes is barely enough. And this was spontaneous!”
- “Does he think he’s some kind of music god?”
- “Even the best can’t do it solo. It takes a whole team.”
- “Maybe he’s just throwing in some basic drum loops or something.”
- “Yeah, that’s probably it…”
On-site, everyone looked at each other in confusion.
Some crew members asked if he needed instruments.
Hua Chenxue sneered:
“Live music production, huh? And this is supposed to be a gift too. We’ve got millions watching—this last-minute patchwork mess is gonna be laughable.”
Before he could finish—
“All done!” Liu Lang stood up.
“!!??” Everyone stared.
“Just play this video,” Liu Lang pointed at the file on screen. The staff was dumbfounded.
“What is this?”
“Music and lyrics.”
“No way! It’s only been 9 minutes—did you download this or something…?”
“Just play it.”
“…”
Still stunned, the staff hooked the computer up to the big screen.
Liu Tianxian looked at Liu Lang, words stuck in her throat.
Hua Chenxue burst out laughing: “This is beyond ridiculous!”
As he spoke, the hall’s screen went black. Buzz buzz buzz—a ripple, and a guitar note rang out.
The visuals exploded into life.
Under the music, clouds, blue skies, flying spacecraft, boys and girls in love—
All kinds of vivid, surreal images blended together in a hand-drawn animation style.
They started to move in sync.
Subtitles appeared:
“Love’s Flight Diary” — Liu Lang
Whoa! The crowd erupted.
While they were still stunned, Liu Lang’s voice began to sing:
“On the edge of the equator, cloudless skies, so serene. A thousand times I’ve told you, my love for you still echoes…”
!!??
Every single person’s eyes widened, mouths slightly open, As if they couldn’t believe what they were seeing… or hearing.
