Chapter 5: The Purpose Test!

While netizens kept chattering on, Liu Tianxian had already carefully explained the next step of the process to Liu Lang.

As soon as she finished talking, Liu Lang whipped out his card and casually slipped it into the box for House A.

Liu Tianxian smirked:

“That fast? The two houses face different directions and everything—you didn’t even look before deciding?”

“Can’t help it. I don’t feel like pretending to be fancy.” Liu Lang shrugged.

Pfft! Liu Tianxian couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Her beautiful almond-shaped eyes crinkled at the corners, and she broke into a full smile—flashing bright white teeth with zero restraint.

Still smiling, she slid her own card into House A as well.

Then she turned to him with a wink:

“Great minds think alike!!”

“You picked?”

“Yup!”

“Can we hurry up now… so I can use the restroom?”

“Hahaha! Let’s go!”

Liu Tianxian lifted the hem of her dress like a playful little fairy and skipped forward.

Her laughter was crisp and cheerful, echoing through the air.

Liu Lang didn’t say another word and simply jogged to catch up.

Everyone at the scene stared, completely stunned as if they couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

The livestream chat went absolutely wild:

“WHAT THE—?! Liu Tianxian really chose to room with HIM??”

“Not only chose… she’s laughing like she’s having the time of her life!”

“Screw off, that’s called being genuine!!

“Wait, don’t tell me she actually likes that guy? But why??”

“Sigh… women. It’s all about looks with them…”

“At least Tianxian isn’t a gold digger. Just for that, I’m a fan now!”

As the comments flooded in, viewership in the livestream shot up rapidly.

“Actually… I’m starting to think this girl’s pretty great,” the woman muttered after a moment of surprise, turning seriously toward the man beside her.

“…” The man was speechless.

“What a coincidence, her last name’s Liu too. Isn’t that fate?”

“She’s like six years older…”

“All the better! ‘Three years older, she’s gold; six years older, she’s a gold mine!’ If he marries her, your Liu family’s basically getting a fortune dropped in your lap!”

“Alright, alright, whatever you say.” The man smiled bitterly. “She just doesn’t hate him, but the way you’re talking, sounds like they’re already married. Let’s wait and see how things go first.”

Liu Lang and Liu Tianxian stepped out of the Love House empty-handed.

Everyone thought the next step would be for the rest of the guests to make their choices.

To their surprise, the production team didn’t stop there.

They called the two back into the car, then took all the guests for a short tour of the surrounding area so they could get familiar with it.

Afterwards, they were brought to lunch.

The cars drove out of the village and passed through dappled sunlight, arriving at a castle-like restaurant with a view of the ocean.

The place had been fully reserved by the production team—no other guests, not even chefs.

Which meant: the guests had to cook for themselves, sharing lunch and a chill afternoon together.

The purpose of this segment was simple:

Over the next few hours, the cast would get to know each other, interact, build rapport—and just like before, decide who they wanted to live with.

This time, they would also determine exactly who lived in which room.

After all, each house had two premium suites on the top floor with private terraces—quiet, beautiful, and… very conducive to future “stories.”

Once inside the restaurant, the guests quickly got to work.

Among the four male contestants, two volunteered to cook, excluding Hua Chenxue and Liu Lang.

One of the volunteers, Zhang Haoliang, even brought his own premium ingredients—clearly hoping to impress the ladies with some culinary flair.

Yang Mi and the other women felt bad just sitting around, so they also offered to help in the kitchen.

Liu Tianxian was about to follow them in when she saw Liu Lang sprawled out on the sofa like a sloth, doing the infamous “Ge You lay.”

She couldn’t help but laugh.

“Already slacking off?”
“I don’t know how to cook. Better to let the talented one’s shine,” Liu Lang stretched lazily.

Liu Tianxian gave a faint smile and didn’t press further.

Just then, the show’s PD appeared, clapping his hands and grinning:

“Friendly reminder! In half an hour, a voting session will open in the livestream. Viewers and the judging panel will rate each guest based on today’s performance.”

“Let me be clear: To avoid the ‘celebrity advantage,’ celebrity scores will be scaled down, and scores for ordinary contestants will be multiplied accordingly, to keep things fair. This system will apply in future episodes too.”

“Before you leave this afternoon, we’ll tally the votes and assign room selection order based on the rankings.”

“Also, something important: the two top-floor rooms—those with the best décor and ocean views—have gender-specific designs. However, due to special circumstances, the third floor of House B is currently closed and off-limits.”

“So, that means only one premium room is available for male guests and one for female guests.”

“Everyone, take note! If you want to secure the best-view room, better start stepping it up!”

The announcement caught all the guests off guard—surprised and speechless.

None of them had expected the room selection to come with such caveats.

And even less so that the production would be this shameless—shutting down a whole floor just to stir up competition and force romantic pairings.

That said, the news was great for the male contestants.

Especially the two guys currently cooking.

The moment they heard the rules, they exchanged sharp glances—sparks practically flying in their eyes.

Meanwhile, Hua Chenxue looked a bit frustrated:

“So, if someone doesn’t know how to cook; they’re at a huge disadvantage?”

“Not necessarily,” the PD replied. “This is a comprehensive rating. If you can’t cook, you can make it up during the post-meal segment—maybe perform a little something to win points.”

“That’s perfect!” Hua Chenxue perked up. “I’m great at singing. I’ll sing something for everyone later.”

Once everyone was clear on the rules, the PD turned to Liu Tianxian with a smile:

“One more thing. The courage you and Liu Lang showed during the earlier challenge has triggered a special reward.”

“What??” Liu Tianxian’s eyes lit up with curiosity.

“You two will receive a Follow Card,” the PD announced, eyes gleaming. “After today’s scoring, regardless of who ranks higher, once one of you picks a room, the other can choose to use the card and follow.”

“Important note: When using this card, the follower doesn’t need to consider score ranking and can immediately secure the neighbouring room.”

“Whoa!” Liu Tianxian looked genuinely surprised.

“That’s a thing??” Reba and the others were stunned.

“Why didn’t you tell us earlier!!” Yu Shuxi complained instantly.

“If we could redo it, would you have jumped off the bus right away?” the PD asked with a teasing smile.

“Uh…” Yu Shuxi looked embarrassed.

The PD chuckled meaningfully:

“This card is only given to two people who had the courage to step forward together and make a shared choice.”

All the guests suddenly fell silent.

Meanwhile, the livestream chat exploded with a flood of comments:

“Damn! This reward’s actually pretty slick! No matter who ranks higher, the other person can just tag along!”

“But here’s the twist—they can also choose not to follow.”

“Haha! Drama alert. Now I really hope Liu Lang wins—I wanna see what Liu Tianxian does!”

“Pffft, get real. Tianxian already agreed to room with him, that’s generous enough. You think she’d really follow him to a specific room too??”

“Bro, you’re still in denial. Just look what she’s doing now!”

“HOLY SH—she actually is…”
