Chapter 5: Wei Jinning Returns Home (Part 2)

After ending the call with Zhao Qiuying, Huo Shan quickly dialed Huo Nanchu’s number.

“Eldest son, I have some great news to share! We’ve finally found your sister! Make sure you come home early tonight—and don’t forget to bring a gift for your adorable little sister.”

Huo Shan didn’t bother to gauge whether Huo Nanchu could immediately accept such a sudden announcement. Instead, he bluntly delivered the thrilling news.

At that moment, Huo Nanchu was sitting in a car headed out of town, absentmindedly flipping through a file. Hearing his father’s words, he frowned and asked, “Dad, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake? Where exactly did you find my sister?”

He was clearly skeptical about this unexpected news.

After all, he had just had breakfast with Huo Shan that very morning. How could he now, just by midday, be getting such a surprising call?

He couldn’t help but suspect that this might be another imposter trying to latch onto their powerful family name and sneak into the Huo household.

Huo Nanchu was already twenty-eight years old—eight years older than Wei Jinning. Ever since he was old enough to understand, the family had been searching for the sister who had gone missing years ago. But twenty years had passed without a trace.

Over the years, there had been several women who falsely claimed to be their long-lost daughter. In the end, every case turned out to be nothing but a disappointing farce.

After so many setbacks and heartbreaks, the family had almost given up hope in recent years.

“How could I possibly lie about something like this? I’m in Chun City right now, on the plane with your sister. We’ll be home in about three hours.”

“This time, there’s no doubt. We had a DNA test done, and the results confirmed she’s my biological daughter. She looks just like your mother—like they were carved from the same mold.”

“You’d better come home early today. If you give your sister a bad first impression and she decides to ignore you from now on, don’t say I didn’t warn you.” As he spoke, Huo Shan glanced over at Wei Jinning sitting beside him on the plane.

“Dad… is everything you’re saying really true?” Huo Nanchu’s voice clearly trembled with excitement.

“I’ve said everything I needed to say. You decide what to do with it. I still have to call your second and third brothers. I’m hanging up now.” Huo Shan didn’t hesitate at all, ending the call without caring how his son might react.

Clearly, sons and wives got very different treatment from him.

“Uncle Liu, please turn the car around and head back,” Huo Nanchu immediately instructed the driver.

The thought of being reunited with the sister he’d been separated from for so long filled him with joy and excitement.

He made up his mind right then—he had to leave a great impression on her.

First things first, he needed to go buy some lovely gifts for his little sister. And not just a few—he needed to make sure it showed real sincerity.

Meanwhile, Huo Shan tried several times to call Huo Zimo and Huo Chengyu, but neither answered.

As it turned out, Huo Zimo was filming out in the wilderness, completely out of signal range. Huo Chengyu was in a similar situation, also on location in a remote area with no reception.

“Those two brothers of yours are always unreachable. When they get back, they’ll owe you big time,” Huo Shan said with a helpless sigh.

However, Wei Jinning was very understanding. “My brothers are all busy with work—it’s totally understandable.”

She knew well how tough life could be for working people. How could she not empathize with her older brothers?

Speaking of Second Brother, at this moment, he was in the middle of filming a television drama.

This drama held special significance for him and could be a breakthrough in his career.

Thinking of this, Wei Jinning felt genuinely happy for him.

However, it was during this drama that Second Brother met someone… which led to a whole chain of rather sorrowful events…

As for Third Brother, he was currently out photographing landscapes for a geography magazine competition.

The scenery he was capturing was breathtaking, but unfortunately…

At this thought, Wei Jinning couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh.

Second Brother’s situation wasn’t that urgent just yet. What mattered most now was figuring out how to bring Third Brother home sooner. Wei Jinning pondered to herself, full of concern for her third brother.

“How does this girl seem to know everything already?” Huo Shan looked at his daughter’s thoughtful expression and mused to himself, I don’t think I ever told her what the rest of the family does…

“Ningning! Let me introduce you to the rest of the family. Your mom owns a jewelry company, but it’s your eldest brother who manages it now—he also manages the Huo Corporation.”

“Your mom and I just go out and travel when we’re free.”

“Your Second Brother is an actor—never does any serious work.”

[Dad, I think you have the wrong understanding of what ‘not doing serious work’ means.]

[Acting is a respectable profession. I used to be an actor myself.]

“What I meant was—your Second Brother doesn’t take acting seriously. He slacks off every other day, and that’s why I say he’s not doing proper work.”

[Looks like Dad is actually pretty open-minded.]

[Dad is great!]

Phew! Good thing he could hear his daughter’s inner voice—otherwise, he might’ve left a bad impression on her.

No, it’s not that Dad is open-minded—it’s just that Dad has a strong survival instinct.

Huo Shan steadied himself and continued, “And your Third Brother is a photographer.”

“Lastly, the girl who just spoke to you on the phone is your older sister. Your mom and I adopted her. She’s currently in her third year of university.”

[She seems kind of pitiful, so I’ll cut her some slack. If she wants to be the older sister, let her be.]

[I remember reading novels where the adopted child in a rich family always wants to be the little sister, while the real daughter is expected to give in and act like a perfect white lotus every day.]

[My sister really doesn’t follow the usual script.]

“Your sister has always wanted a younger sibling. She doesn’t like being the youngest. Now that you’re back, it works out perfectly,” Huo Shan explained.

“Mhm, I like having a big sister,” Wei Jinning said with a yawn, unable to hold back her drowsiness.

“Ningning, if you’re sleepy, take a nap. I’ll wake you when we arrive,” Huo Shan still had so much he wanted to say to his daughter, but seeing how tired she was, he decided to save it for later.

“No need, Dad. I can stay up a bit longer,” Wei Jinning’s eyes were already tearing up from sleepiness.

“Just go to sleep! I’m tired too—I’ll take a nap with you,” Huo Shan said, noticing how she could barely keep her eyes open but still insisted on staying awake.

“Okay, then,” Wei Jinning replied—and fell asleep within a second.

Even though she knew the Huo family seemed nice, having no real family of her own made her feel nervous, and she hadn’t slept well the night before.

The private jet was spacious, comfortable, and the temperature was perfect—she simply couldn’t keep her eyes open.

Watching her fall asleep in an instant, Huo Shan thought, This child is so considerate. Even when tired, she tries to hold on—it’s heartbreaking.

But he was also confused. How did she know so much? And why did she say she was an actress? The information they’d received from the police station didn’t match at all. Looks like I’ll need to have someone investigate more thoroughly.

Inside the Huo family villa, all was calm and peaceful.

“Mom, do I really have a little sister now?” Huo Jinxin blinked her big eyes, looking up at her mother with curiosity.

“Yes, that’s right! Your sister is finally coming home!” Zhao Qiuying’s eyes sparkled with joy as she gently stroked her daughter’s hair.

Upon hearing the news, Huo Jinxin lit up like an excited little bunny. “Then I need to tell Auntie Wang to make more delicious food to welcome her!” she exclaimed and ran toward the kitchen in high spirits.

Watching her daughter’s cheerful figure disappear, Zhao Qiuying smiled with comfort and satisfaction.

She then turned and called for Butler Liu. “Butler Liu!”

“Yes, Madam, what are your instructions?” Butler Liu responded respectfully.

“Please arrange for Ningning’s room to be thoroughly cleaned. Make sure not a speck of dust remains,” Zhao Qiuying ordered firmly.

“Yes, Madam.” Although Butler Liu wasn’t aware that Wei Jinning had already been found, he knew that her room underwent a deep cleaning every so often as part of routine maintenance.

So he didn’t think much of it—just assumed it was another regular cleaning session.

But Zhao Qiuying, suddenly remembering something, added, “Oh, right! Be sure to open the windows for fresh air, change the bedsheets and duvet cover, and light the aromatherapy she likes in her room.”

Right after speaking, she frowned slightly with regret. “Oh no, how could I forget to ask Ningning what scent she likes…” she murmured, feeling a little guilty.

“Madam… Miss Jinning has been found?” Butler Liu froze mid-step, eyes wide in shock as he turned to look at her.

“Yes, she’ll be home in three or four hours. She’s with Ah Shan now. Quickly get the household staff together and make sure everyone moves quickly!” Her excitement was impossible to hide—her voice had jumped an octave without her realizing.

“Absolutely, absolutely—I’ll take care of everything right away! We’ll make sure Miss Jinning is completely satisfied!” Butler Liu nodded enthusiastically, then turned and jogged off with a spring in his step.

It was as if he had gone back in time to his younger days, walking with energy and strength.

In fact, Butler Liu had taken care of Huo Shan since he was a boy—he had watched him grow up step by step.

To him, Huo Shan felt like his own son.

So when Miss Jinning went missing, he knew very well how deeply that blow had affected the Huo couple.

Now, upon hearing that the child had returned safely, he too was overwhelmed with joy.

Just after the arrangements were made, Huo Jinxin came out of the kitchen and called out to Zhao Qiuying, “Mom, let’s go!”

“Yes, yes, coming!” Zhao Qiuying quickly replied.

And so, mother and daughter set off for the biggest shopping mall in the capital—Joy City.

“Mom, this one’s nice! Let’s get it for my sister.”

“Xinxin, I think this one’s great too! Let’s get it for Ningning.”

Everything they liked was sent straight to the Huo residence—from clothes and shoes to handbags and jewelry, they bought it all.
